Global Diabetes Statistics

Updated: Sep 13
In today's topic, we will touch on global statistics about this disease. We will see where this kind of lifestyle leads and what the numbers say about it.

When blood sugar is elevated, these 4 tissues and organs suffer the most: the eyes, heart, kidneys, and nervous system. It also leads to cancer, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease.
China is the leading country both in total population and in the number of people suffering from this disease. 11% of China's population, or about 150 million people, suffer from this disease, and another 493 million are in a prediabetic state.
Moving on, India is second on the list with 69 million people who are diabetic and 77 million prediabetic. Taking into account their large population, these 69 million make up 7.3% of their total population.
They are followed by Saudi Arabia with 3.8 million diabetics. Although the number is much smaller than the first two, what matters is that this figure makes up as much as 18.5% of their population. Since every 5th or 6th person there is diabetic, that puts Saudi Arabia in first place in the world in terms of the percentage of diabetics in the country.
Then there is Mexico with 13 million diabetics, making up 14.8% of their population. Incidentally, Mexico ranks first in the number of deaths caused by diabetes.
America is next on the list with 30 million, making up 9.4% of its population, and another 84.1 million people in America are in a prediabetic state.
