Very often, testosterone tests in obese men show low testosterone levels. Testosterone deficiency is a very serious problem today that affects all men. The consequences of a lack of this hormone in men are quite evident and serious, and today we will write about one part of this problem, specifically the reasons why testosterone deficiency occurs in obese men. Before we begin with the explanation, let’s explain what androgens are. Androgens are a group of hormones that mainly influence the development of the male reproductive system. In addition, androgens have a huge impact on maintaining male health.
In our body there is an enzyme called aromatase, whose role is to convert testosterone into estrogen. In men, aromatase occurs in several types of tissue in the body, including bone tissue, brain tissue, the testicles, and fat, or adipose tissue. The more fat tissue you have, the more of this enzyme is present in your body. This is exactly why it is important for men not to have unnecessary fat tissue, and the most natural way to remove it is intermittent fasting, a healthy keto diet, and, of course, training.
This conversion of testosterone into estrogen is extremely bad, not only because you lose testosterone through the conversion, but also because the more estrogen there is, the more it further lowers testosterone levels. There are many consequences of testosterone deficiency, but some of the most noticeable ones are gynecomastia (male breast enlargement), depression, anxiety, decreased libido, lack of energy, etc.
Of course, there are natural aromatase inhibitors, such as concentrated dried powder of various green vegetables, as well as nettle root, which is well known for its fantastic effects. Intermittent fasting and zinc, although not inhibitors of this enzyme, will also help increase testosterone production.
